In the spirit of Operation Warp Speed, President Donald Trump is again marshaling the widespread destruction of human health under the guise of a national emergency. Trump signed an executive order declaring the toxic herbicide glyphosate a matter of “national security,” expanding production of the infamous carcinogen. Signed on February 18, 2026, the order invokes the Defense Production Act to prioritize and protect the supply of glyphosate-based herbicides, framing the mass saturation of the food supply with a probable human carcinogen as a patriotic duty essential to military readiness and agricultural productivity. This directive, crafted in the language of national emergency, represents a direct corporate bailout for Bayer/Monsanto and a calculated act of chemical warfare against the American populace, effectively using the power of the presidency to enshrine mass poison as policy, decimating human health and controlling agricultural functions for decades to come.
Key points:
The order, titled “Promoting the National Defense by Ensuring an Adequate Supply of Elemental Phosphorus and Glyphosate-Based Herbicides,” begins by outlining legitimate military uses for elemental phosphorus in semiconductors and incendiary devices. It then performs a rhetorical sleight of hand, seamlessly pivoting to glyphosate by claiming it is an irreplaceable “cornerstone” of agriculture. The text asserts that a lack of access would “critically jeopardize agricultural productivity,” a claim fabricated by agrochemical marketing departments and wholly divorced from the reality of regenerative farming and organic practices that flourish without this poison.
Most revealing is the document’s admission of America’s dependency on foreign, primarily Chinese, phosphate imports. This dependency, a result of corporate offshoring and globalization, is now cynically repurposed as a national security vulnerability. The order states that any reduction in supply “would gravely threaten American national security,” thus transforming a corporate-created supply chain weakness into a pretext for mandating the continued poisoning of American soil and food. The agrichemical industry, having failed to convince legislators to grant it legal immunity for its carcinogenic products, has now successfully lobbied the office of the President to declare their chemicals an issue of national security, bypassing democratic accountability entirely.
Perhaps the most legally dangerous component of the order is Section 3, bluntly titled “Immunity.” It states, “This order confers all immunity provided for in section 707 of the Act.” While not an explicit grant of blanket corporate legal immunity, this provision is a strategic masterstroke for Bayer. Coupled with the “national defense” designation, it constructs a powerful legal fortress. It enables the company to argue in court that federal authority preempts state-level lawsuits, moving it decisively toward the absolute legal protection enjoyed by the vaccine industry under the PREP Act. In other words, Trump sold America out and protected one of the most egregious corporations that cause cancer globally.
The Trump administration has already sided with Bayer in Supreme Court proceedings aimed at shielding the company from liability. As reported by The Defender, industry-friendly laws are being floated to provide “liability protection for chemical makers.” This executive order activates that playbook, using the Defense Production Act and the authority of the Secretary of War to protect a corporate defendant from the consequences of selling a product that causes cancer. The message is clear: Bayer’s profits are now officially prioritized over the lives and health of American citizens, with the full force of the federal government deployed as their private security detail.
The practical outcome is a green light for the unchecked proliferation of glyphosate. Contamination levels in staple foods—already detected in popular bread brands at levels up to 191 parts per billion—will become ubiquitous. The organic label, already vulnerable to fraud and wind drift, will be further compromised. The economic burden will fall most heavily on the poor, who are systematically trapped in a toxic conventional food system they cannot afford to escape. They are the intended casualties of this policy, consuming a harvest deliberately poisoned under the grotesque banner of “national defense.”
